CAR ADVERTISING WORKED THIS TIME

a few weeks ago, i was stuck in South Loop traffic behind a silver SUV with the name and URL of an art gallery on the rear window. well, i met with the owners yesterday to discuss what i do and the overall marketability of my work and the response was pretty positive. that said, i think we’re going to try and get my first proper show up and running sometime this summer, the proceeds from which will go towards funding my work as a humanitarian photographer.

that’s all i have to report for now but i’ll be sure to keep my blog updated as things gradually unfold :)

BURIED BY YOUR POPULARITY

for those of you who don’t know, my brother Dan is also a photographer (a better one than i am, though he would never admit it) and primarily shoots professional motorcycle racing which, by itself, probably makes him the coolest brother ever.

anyway, today is his birthday so head on over to his website at www.CornerSpeedPhoto.com, check out his photos and wish him a happy one!

ABOVE THE DUNLOP

so my brother of CornerSpeedPhoto fame is in Florida right now covering the Daytona 200 AMA superbike races this weekend. since he’s friends with a few of the racers, he’s convinced some of them to run CornerSpeedPhoto stickers on their bikes this season. for this weekend’s races, said stickers are on the Buell 1125Rs of Shawn Higbee and Paul James:

plus the Suzuki GSX-R of Skip Salenius:

OUTRAN THE HALL MONITOR

my brother, the incredibly talented motorsports photographer behind CornerSpeedPhoto, had stickers made recently so i decided to slap one on my crutch. if you enjoy racing or watching other people race, head on over to CornerSpeedPhoto.com and take a look at some of his work; you won’t regret it.

INTERESTING/RARE/VINTAGE CARS 024

the Volkswagen 1600 Squareback you see above was the last thing i ever photographed with my Nikon D200 (serial #3093098) before it was stolen early last year. as such, the sight of this rather unfortunate looking 1600 fills me with the insurmountable urge to hurl the camera thief into a large cauldron of boiling oil. oh yes, it does.

vengeful thoughts aside, two things strike me about this Volkswagen: 1) it looks like it’s been through a lot and 2) it’s got to be one tough little wagon. it’s probably witnessed a great many crazy things in the last 30 years, certainly enough to trade its paint for dents and patches of rust while outlasting most of its contemporaries. this then is a fighter, a great survivor of many things and will probably continue to plod on for years to come. bravo.

STAYING IN CLOSE FORMATION

my brother just got a photo published in the October/November issue of Road Racer X which is like a nature photographer getting something published in National Geographic. if you’d like to see more stunning motorsports photography, check out Dan’s website at cornerspeedphoto.com.

WHAT, KIND OF LIKE THIS?

spent the day shooting a big motorcycle cruising event thing with lots of bearded, tattooed bikers. it went pretty well until some drunk white kid called me a “son of a bitch” for “bombing Pearl Harbor.”

didn’t think that sort of thing happened anymore.

THE PRICE OF DRAFTING IS TOO COSTLY

when we started shooting this morning at Road America, my photos looked like this:

but by the end of the day, they started to look more like this:

HUZZAH!

THE DAIRYLAND CLASSIC

leaving for Road America early tomorrow morning with my brother to shoot practice and qualifying sessions for AMA Superbike, Daytona SportBike, SuperSport, and Moto-GT. sleep time!
